The Glihas

Meet the family behind it all, the Glihas!  From 1978-1981, Dennis Gliha managed The Garden Barn and he and Kathy purchased it together in 1981.  They built the company up to be what it is today.  Their two children, Kim and Shawn, both started working at Garden Barn at the age of 12 and have worked here ever since.  In 2007, Kim started working full time as sales manager, overseeing front-end sales, hard goods, giftware selection, and the purchasing of greenhouse and annual plants.  She graduated from the University of Connecticut in the spring of 2008 with a degree in Agribusiness.  Shawn graduated in the spring of 2010 with a degree in Horticulture, and in the same year started working full time at the Garden Barn as nursery manager and landscape designer.  Shawn handles purchasing and care of our trees, shrubs, and perennials, as well as creating first-rate landscape designs.  Family is a very high priority for the Glihas, and they are always spending time together.  They are a family made up of avid dog lovers and exceptional cooks! In his free time, Shawn loves following football and working in his yard with his wife Chelsy. Kim enjoys practicing yoga, working out, and spending time with her husband Ryan.  Even though Kim and Shawn run the day-to-day operations at the Garden Barn, Dennis and Kathy are still very much a part of the company and key to its success. Kathy and Chelsy run our main office and take care of administrative details, while Dennis and Ryan spend their time in the Grow House producing much of our Garden Barn Grown plant material. From pansies to mums they are in full force! The Glihas love the Garden Barn Grown plants because they get to choose what special varieties to grow and can control the quality of the plant material we provide for our customers.  They believe what sets the Garden Barn above the rest is the quality and variety of plant material we carry, as well as the knowledge and expertise of everyone on their staff.  The Glihas welcome you to The Garden Barn any time!
