Weed Control

Weed Control

Controlling weeds in your lawn and garden can be a daunting task. While pulling weeds or physically digging them up is safe and effective, it can be too burdensome, especially over large areas. That's why we offer a wide selection of physical and chemical weed control products.

Landscape Fabric

A simple way to prevent weeds in garden beds and landscaped areas is to use landscape fabric. It works by smothering weeds before they can get established. Putting landscape fabric down under mulch can help keep your beds weed-free for several years until it breaks down and needs to be replaced.

Preen

Preen is one of the most popular weed control products on the market. It is important to note, however, that it does not kill existing weeds; it is a pre-emergent, meaning that it keeps weed seeds (or any seeds, so don't put it down where you've just planted!) from germinating properly. It is a fabulous guard against quick-spreading annual weeds and is safe to use around established plant material. We carry Preen Weed Control and Preen Natural for vegetable gardens.

Granular Lawn Products

For treating entire lawns, we offer Scotts granular weed control. Listed as controlling over 200 weeds, Scott's weed control kills weeds down to the root so they won't come back.

For a natural solution, we also carry Corn Gluten. This pet-safe product is a low-dose fertilizer and prevents new seeds from sprouting. As with Preen, be careful not to apply it near newly seeded areas.

Liquid Spot Treatment

For small patches of crabgrass, dandelions, or other weeds in your lawn or along walkways, spot treatment is an effective means of control. We offer several brands of weed killers in concentrate, hose-end, and ready to spray containers. Unfortunately, there is no chemical that can control weeds in flower beds or around landscaped areas without also harming those plants. The only plant that chemical weed control is safe on is lawn grass.

Specialty Products

Some weeds are more tenacious than others. Poison Ivy, sedge, oxalis, and several others are tough to eradicate, so we carry products specifically aimed at them. If you're not sure which weed you're battling, bring us a sample or a picture, we can help identify it!
